The foomms application

Privacy

foomms shows no advertising, measures no audience, asks for no account and collects no data. It has no access to the Internet: your messages travel over your operator’s network, like any SMS or MMS, and nothing goes through a server of the association.

foomms does no cryptography itself: it asks foodjis to encrypt, sign, decrypt and verify, and foodjis relies on your security key. An encrypted message stays encrypted in the phone’s memory; once opened, it closes again after the time you have chosen.

Your messages, conversations and settings stay on your phone. A backup is only written where you choose, and PGP messages stay encrypted in it. When you tie a number to a certificate, foomms writes it in your address book.

Permissions

  • SMS and MMS, to send, receive and read your messages, and to become the phone’s messaging application if you choose so;
  • contacts, to name the people you write with and tie a number to a certificate, when you ask;
  • location, only when you attach “Where I am” to a message;
  • microphone, only while you record a voice message;
  • notifications, to announce the messages received.

Licence

foomms is free software, distributed under the GPL-3.0-only licence. The source code of each version is given to anyone who holds the application and asks for it at info@foopgp.org.
